PrEP Aware Week

by Alexa Styliadis

PrEP Aware Week 2021

PrEP Aware Week is a public education campaign supported by the NYS Department of Health AIDS Institute. From October 25–31, 2021, a host of virtual and in-person events and activities will occur across New York State, with the objective of boosting awareness and knowledge of PrEP.

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a medication that can prevent HIV. The theme for PrEP Aware Week 2021 is “My PrEP" and the official campaign website is www.PrepForSex.org. The campaign features images and videos of several PrEP ambassadors from across the state. Collectively, they reflect a variety of races, ethnicities, gender identities and sexual orientations. These individuals were selected based on their strong social media presence and connection with the communities that they represent – utilizing their personal platforms to advocate for PrEP and sexual health.

Meet Marie-Adélina from Rochester, NY! She says that PrEP gives her peace of mind to live her life without worrying about HIV. It lets her take control of her sexual health.
