ROCHESTER, NY – For the seventh consecutive year, Trillium Health has been recognized as a “Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the educational arm of the country’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization.
The honor is given to health care providers that meet LGBTQ-inclusive criteria and continue to improve programs and policies annually. Trillium Health earned top marks in meeting non-discrimination and training criteria that demonstrate its commitment to equitable, inclusive care for all, who face significant challenges in securing the high-quality health care and respect they deserve.
“This recognition from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation is an affirmation of the transformative work Trillium Health continues to champion in pursuit of equity and inclusion for all, and in particular for our LGBTQ community, patients & their families and employees” said Trillium Health President & CEO Andrea DeMeo.
In 2016, 75 percent of the healthcare facilities actively participating in the survey scored 80 points. Trillium Health received a perfect score, one of 49 in the state. In total, HRC received more than 100 participating hospitals, providers and medical facilities from New York State. A record 590 healthcare facilities actively participated in the 2017 HEI survey nationally, committing to LGBTQ-inclusive policies and practices. In addition, the HRC Foundation proactively researched the key policies at more than 900 additional non-participating hospitals. Of facilities surveyed for the HEI, 300 earned the “Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality” designation given to Trillium Health.
