On behalf of Trillium Health, the Out Alliance, and the communities we serve, we applaud Governor Andrew M. Cuomo for announcing new actions to ensure health insurers provide expanded coverage for the HIV-prevention drug, PrEP and require health insurers to issue new health insurer ID cards so consumers, including the transgender community, receive the significant protections guaranteed to them under New York State law. This will remove significant financial barriers for people who want to take PrEP to prevent HIV and ensure people have the information they need at their fingertips. These efforts support New York State's mission to End the HIV Epidemic by 2020 and ensure quality healthcare protections for our LGBTQ+ friends, family, and neighbors.
This marks a promising step forward in the health care community, and we commend Governor Cuomo for his continued efforts in creating vital protections for LGBTQ+ communities in New York State.
