June 26, 2025 (Rochester, NY) – Trillium Health is proud to announce the establishment of the Trillium Health, Mark Malahosky Endowed Scholarship to Advance Community Health at St. John Fisher University. The scholarship honors Mark Malahosky, who retired earlier this year after 35 years of dedicated service—20 years as Vice President of Pharmacy at Trillium Health, and 15 years as a pharmacist serving patients of Community Health Network, the organization that preceded Trillium Health.
“Mark was instrumental in establishing a pharmacy at Trillium Health from the ground up. Without his leadership, Trillium Health would not have experienced the remarkable growth it has achieved today,” said Jason Barnecut-Kearns, President and CEO of Trillium Health. “Currently, we operate three pharmacies and provide care to over 14,000 medical patients. This scholarship is a tribute to Mark’s unwavering commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care to everyone, with a special focus on vulnerable communities.”
The Trillium Health, Mark Malahosky Endowed Scholarship to Advance Community Health will be awarded to a student who is enrolled full-time at St. John Fisher University, pursuing a major in the Health Sciences (including Pharmacy and Nursing), and demonstrates financial need.
A 1985 graduate of the SUNY Buffalo School of Pharmacy, Mark began his career during the height of the AIDS crisis, working at the pharmacy that served Community Health Network. He collaborated closely with Dr. Bill Valenti, co-founder of Trillium Health, and formally joined the organization in 2005.
At Trillium Health, Mark was responsible for launching an on-site pharmacy and developing clinical pharmacy services. His work played a pivotal role in Trillium Health’s ability to grow and serve more patients. A nationally recognized expert on the 340B Drug Pricing Program, Mark helped to leverage cost savings, which were reinvested into programs to serve underserved communities. Throughout his tenure, Trillium Health grew from 800 patients to more than 14,000.
In 2009, Mark was appointed adjunct associate professor at the Wegmans School of Pharmacy at St. John Fisher University. He also served as a preceptor for pharmacy students from SUNY Buffalo, D’Youville College, and Albany College of Pharmacy.
Mark was active in several professional organizations throughout his career, including the American Pharmacists Association, the National Community Pharmacists Association, and the Pharmacists' Society of the State of New York. He also held leadership roles as Treasurer of Ryan White Clinics for 340B Access and Secretary of 340B Grantees. Mark celebrated his 20th anniversary at Trillium Health on March 7, 2025, and he retired the same day.
“Mark’s legacy will live on through the Trillium Health Pharmacy and through the thousands of lives that he touched over the years. This scholarship celebrates Mark’s lasting impact on the healthcare community and his commitment to educating the next generation,” said Barnecut-Kearns.
