Trillium Health Marks PrEP Aware Week to Promote Sexual Health, Prevent HIV

Oct 24, 2022

HIV prevention drug PrEP now available in multiple forms, making it easier for people to take ownership of sexual health, gain piece of mind

October 24, 2022 (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) — Trillium Health is joining community health centers across New York State to raise awareness about pre-exposure prophylaxis, more commonly known as “PrEP,” to prevent new cases of HIV. The theme of the 2022 PrEP Aware Week campaign is “Portraits of PrEP.” It features photos and videos of real people from across New York State who are taking charge of their sexual health and gaining piece of mind with PrEP.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What is PrEP? PrEP (short for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is medication that prevents HIV. PrEP can either be taken as a daily pill or a bimonthly injection. Trillium Health offers both forms of PrEP.
  • Who is PrEP for? PrEP is for anyone – straight, gay, or bisexual. PrEP is for male, female, transgender, or gender non-conforming individuals.
  • How effective is it? When a person takes PrEP as directed, it is 99% effective at preventing HIV.

Why is PrEP important?

While great strides have been made in reducing the rate of new HIV infections in New York State, we are still seeing new cases each year. PrEP use in the Finger Lakes region has declined during the COVID-19 pandemic. Walk-ins are welcome at Trillium Health!
