Fatma Akmese, MD

Dr. Fatma Akmese is a board-certified family medicine physician with over 20 years of experience caring for patients in the Rochester area. She earned her medical degree through the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at City College of New York and SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. She completed her Family Medicine residency in Fresno, California, where she provided care to migrant farm workers and their families in Selma—the raisin capital of the world.

Dr. Akmese is passionate about delivering inclusive, compassionate primary care and has a strong interest in addiction medicine and harm reduction. She is fluent in Spanish and Turkish, which helps her connect with patients from diverse backgrounds.

Born in Southeast Turkey and raised in New York City, Dr. Akmese brings a rich cultural perspective to her work. Outside of medicine, she enjoys painting, writing poetry, playing the ukulele, and exploring comedy. She spends most of her free time with her family.
